1,555 ballot boxes processed

Day 24 of the National Recount of the votes at the General and Regional Elections came to a close with 82 ballot boxes being processed, thereby taking the total number of ballot boxes processed to date to 1, 555.

There are an overall total of 2,339 ballot boxes, and with 1,555 completed, there remain 784 ballot boxes left to be processed. The recount is being executed by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC) under the watchful eyes of a Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Scrutinizing Team as well as a number of other international and local observers.

According to GECOM’s Public Relations Officer Yolanda Ward, of the boxes processed on Friday, 25 were from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), 24 from Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), nine from Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni), 11 from Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) and 13 from Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) – a total of 82 boxes.

To date, all of the votes from Regions One, Two, Three, Five, and Seven have been recounted, and as such the focus is on Regions, Four, Six, Eight, Nine and 10.
With the Elections Commission extending the 25-day timeline, recount is now expected to conclude on June 13, 2020.
