The curtain goes up on Feminition

…showcasing women’s achievements, their skills, artistic talents and professionalism

THE much anticipated women’s exhibition, Feminition, is set to be launched today at 16:30hrs. The first of its kind in Guyana, Feminition promises to showcase the work of skillful women who work in the commercial, industrial and domestic fraternities. Hundreds of spots have already been confirmed, and numerous booths will be available, providing a wide array of services, including arts and craft, health consultations, seminars and training in various areas, entrepreneurship and business advice, local fashion and beauty care.
There will also be live make-over sessions, body massages and several HIV Counselling and testing sites.
When the Guyana Chronicle visited yesterday afternoon, many exhibitors were hard at work painting and setting up their booths.

Director of Sales and Marketing of the Princess Hotel, Petal Ridley, and General Manger Mr. Muharrem Kulekci were overseeing preparations of a Princess Hotel Exhibit which would replicate a room at the hotel and will promote accommodation, spa and other services. Ridley noted that the event will highlight the strong women employed by the hotel.

Guyana Women Artist Association members were there working on their booth.
President of the Association, Jynell Osborne, described the exhibition as an excellent opportunity to showcase the work of several women artists. She expressed delight that participation in the exhibition was free, since she noted that often the group would like to participate in other exhibitions but the cost is often prohibitive.
Osborne promised jewellery to paintings and “a lot in between” at the exhibition. She was hesitant to give too much away but promised work of the highest quality, from new members as well as the familiar, matured ones who have already carved a niche on the art scene.

According to a release from the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, the exposition will include a health village, emphasizing women’s health; a symposium on women’s issues; an award ceremony for young business women; a fashion segment showcasing local designers; an all female mega concert; make-overs (health and beauty); hair care; home decorating; knowing more about seeking professional assistance; and legal Aid – the law and you.

The ministry said that the expo aims to showcase the progress achieved by women in Guyana, highlight clearly defined career choices, showcase women’s talents, skills, professionalism, creative and artistic talents, women’s leadership, emphasize the need for healthy lifestyles, positive self-image and self esteem, create and stimulate employment ideas for the unemployed, create awareness of training and other opportunities for women and young girls, highlight the existence and work of various women and stakeholder groups, and stimulate a drive for women’s entrepreneurship.

The opening ceremony will feature a dramatic and musical presentation by some of Guyana’s top theatrical and musical artistes, including the National School of Dance, Apsara Dancers, Simone Dowding, Sonia Yarde, Lisa Punch and many more.
Saturday, at approximately 20:00hrs, there will be the all-female mega concert, featuring Queen Ifrica, Fay-Ann Lyons, Timeka Marshall, Big Red, Shelly G, Fiona just to name a few.

The excitement continues with a grand fashion show scheduled for 18:00hrs Sunday, featuring Guyana’s top designers – Sonia Noel, Carol Fraser, Derek Moore, Keisha Edwards, Randy Madray and others, including surprise guests.

Don’t miss this first of its kind event!
