Education Minister Priya Manickchand on Tuesday introduced the “Guyana Digital School”, an online platform designed to provide Grades 10 and 11 students with access to CSEC learning materials.
The platform was introduced at St. Rose’s High School and the North Ruimveldt Multilateral School in Georgetown and is expected to transform education delivery in Guyana through technology and digital learning tools, the education Ministry stated
By way of a live video recording on the Ministry’s Facebook page Manickchand emphasized that the initiative aligns with President Irfaan Ali’s vision of equalizing education access, ensuring that high-quality lessons are available to all students, not just those who can afford private tutoring. She highlighted the importance of bridging educational gaps, particularly for students in remote areas who may not have access to extra lessons.
“At North Ruimveldt, students might have multiple options for extra lessons in subjects like mathematics, geography, and social studies. However, in deep hinterland areas such as the Rupununi, students might not have those opportunities. The Guyana Digital School ensures that all the content required by CXC is accessible in various formats nationwide”, she stated.
The platform provides notes, instructional videos, interactive crosswords, and quizzes, along with artificial intelligence to help assess students’ weaknesses and suggests reinforcement. Additionally, CXC-recommended books which will be digital are available for free also.
A release from the Ministry noted that the platform, first announced by President Ali in April 2024, is part of the government’s broader effort to expand access to high-quality education, particularly in remote and hinterland areas. Ali is expected to officially launch the platform in the coming weeks, the release stated.
The platform will also allow for any student regardless of school or location, to register for free. There are no eligibility restrictions, making it accessible to students in traditional schools, homeschoolers, and those seeking extra academic support.
The platform aims to have 5,000 students registered in its initial phase, but it has the capacity to support a much larger number as demand grows. Currently, 13 CSEC subjects are available, with 35 weeks’ worth of content ready for students upon registration. The subjects offered include Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Information Technology, Principles of Business, Principles of Accounts, Electronic Data Preparation and Management (EDPM), Office Administration, Integrated Science, English A, Modern Languages (Spanish), and Social Studies.
Students can choose to register for all 13 subjects or focus on specific ones based on their academic goals. The platform follows a self-paced learning model, allowing students to revisit challenging topics as needed and progress at their own speed. All materials remain accessible for an entire year, giving students the flexibility to structure their learning around other commitments.
The first official group of students will begin using the platform next week. Students can register for the Guyana Digital School at digitalschool.moe.edu.gy.
