Minister Manickchand Visits Karaudarnau in Deep South Rupununi

The Honourable Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, today visited Karaudarnau in Deep South Rupununi, Upper Takatu-Upper Essequibo, one of Guyana’s most culturally rich communities.

Here, six teachers are set to graduate from the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) in August, with five others currently in training. Every child in Karaudarnau has received the $55,000 ‘Because We Care’ cash grant along with their textbooks, and they benefit daily from both breakfast and a hot meal under the Ministry’s National School Feeding Programme.

The community has experienced significant investments across various sectors, strengthening its development. In Karaudarnau, children from nursery to Grade 2 are taught in both Wapichan and English, preserving language and culture while supporting literacy. And perhaps, most importantly, people here are informed, engaged, and proudly aware of their progress.
